The recruiter called my salary expectations "cute." I ended the Zoom call right there. Did I overreact?

That's what happened here, where a person with reasonable salary expectations had a recruiter laugh in their face. It's never right to scoff in someone's face, even if they deserve it. We should all be treating each other with a baseline level of respect at all times, especially if we want people to work for our company. No company is so sought-after that they have earned the right to treat interviewees poorly. It's also right to acknowledge just how much salary matters when applying to jobs. It's one thing to dwell on it to the detriment of your interview. It's another thing to pretend like it doesn't matter and expect people to work for you just out of the kindness of their hearts. So when salary negotiations arise, it's important to treat them with the utmost care. This is people's livelihoods after all, not just an afterthought. But that's what happened here, to the interviewee's chagrin. Keep scrolling to read what happened in this story and see what you think about it.
